I had mixed emotions after reading some bad reviews but was very surprised.

We had called in advance and explained we had a tour planned at 1:00 even though check-in was not until 3:00. We stopped by the motel at 11:00 when we arrived to let them know we were there. They told us they had our room ready if we wanted to check in. WOW how nice for us to be able to freshen up and get to our tour on time.

We had our small dog with us so had asked in advance for a large room. Dog crate, food and water bowl etc. We were able to get a handicapped room with a king bed, nice furniture, recliner and a huge bathroom. Walk in shower bathroom measured 7x12. Great for a small dog. With this large bathroom we were able to put the crate and all dog supplies in the bathroom. Our dog goes on pee pads to we felt comfortable in case he missed we would hose it down. With the sliding pocket door we could pull it shut while we were gone.

The pillows weren't the best but bedspread, sheets, towels were all fine. Not a Ritz Hotel but still very nice.

We had ground floor very close to Route 30 but could hear very little traffic noise. Had no trouble getting in and out of the parking lot.

Found front office staff very nice and helpful. Didn't have a complimentary breakfast but did get coffee and all the food looked fresh.

I have no problem recommending the Red Roof Inn.

"Great Stay"

For $80/night during peak summer season (I was here two weeknights in a row), this hotel was a great value. The lobby was lovely and clearly just renovated, but I'm not sure my room was. The staff was very friendly (although we didn't need anything from them -- there was no check-in line, nothing lacking in the room), the room was as clean as I expected it to be, the cleaning staff did a concsiencious job. Towels, soap, shampoo -- all in order.

My only complaint was that the room smelled bad, and if I hadn't been so tired from a long drive with my 3-year old and lugging all of our bags up a flight of stairs I would have asked to change rooms. After a night of running the a/c and bathroom fan, it improved tremendously. The floor near the a/c was damp, so clearly there was some leaking into the carpet causing a smell. But because of the positives, it was liveable.

The microwave and fridge were a pleasant surprise -- perfect for families traveling with children. The place must be 1/4 mile or less from Dutch Wonderland and just minutes away from the Strasburg attractions. This was handy when, after discovering that there was no "swimmable" depth pool at DW my toddler demanded to go back to the hotel and swim. It was near lunch, so I agreed. We were back and in the pool in five minutes, swam, had lunch from the fridge/microwave (!), rested for an hour and hopped back to DW in minutes.

I am always prepared for noise in a budget hotel, so I always put on the bathroom blower and run the ac/heating fan. The fan wasn't an option here, but I had my son's 'noise machine'. There were all of the typical door opening/closing sounds, footsteps upstairs (there are 3 floors), cars outside, etc (the corridors are exterior). Not great, not awful.

The pool was very pleasant and very clean, and I'm squeamish about pools. The (free) breakfast is (again) what I expect from a budget hotel. It's sustenance, not a dining extravaganza.

Good enough for me. We were torn between this and spending another $50+ on a newer hotel. I'm glad we stuck with this one. It's not like we spent much time in the room, I put the extra cash toward kid indulgences during the trip, and by the way he loved our hotel room.

I was visiting Lancaster to go to a concert at the American Music Theatre and actually called them for some ideas of where to stay. The Red Roof was recommended as being close by and recently updated. It was a good choice.

The hotel is about 1/2 mile from the Theatre. One of my concerns was that both are located along busy Route 30, a four-lane undivided highway. Making a left turn from the hotel parking lot looked difficult, if not impossible. BUT -- the hotel parking lot joins into the parking lots to its east for a number of restaurants and at the other end, there is a road that comes out to Route 30 with a traffic light which makes a left turn possible so that problem was solved.

I had a large comfortable room, much bigger than some Red Roofs I've stayed in. Two-sink vanity, which was nice although I was traveling alone. I did notice that the website for Red Roof states that each room has a hair dryer and there was none there...and I couldn't see anyplace one could have been attached in the sink area.

Room comes with a small fridge and microwave which is a plus. Continental breakfast is available although the room it is served in seems small. The hotel was full to capacity that night.

Overall, I was quite pleased with my stay here and would recommend it to other travelers.

I have stayed at this place two times, once in 2005 and again, last week. But it seemed like a new place, with new bathrooms, linen, carpets. I have a 'Redicard' for a year, and I got one of the two nights free. And it is conveniently steps away from Dutch wonderland (I forgot to take my swimming trunks and I could return within no time) and adjacent restaurant giving 10% off for my stay. The view of Amish village in the back is breathtaking with Amish people working with horses on fields.

"Lancaster is about the AMISH" simply said. The Red Roof Inn in my eyes were better than the Hampton Inn that I last stayed at in New Orleans. Hampton is suppose to be a higher end. This Red Roof is definitely from the higher end of their hotels. It lobby and reception area is absolutely stunning and the staff here is amazing. Johnny was great help and one of the sweetest people I were met.

What else can one want?

Rooms were indefinitely very clean and well maintained, staff was great, and great heated pool.

Great selection at breakfast w/ make you're OWN WAFFLE & EGGS... Of course there was help for elders. My kids enjoyed it.

There is a long line during check-in which aggravated me, I was scared at first, but during downtime breath-taking. Dinner selection literally is 100 ft away from the Inn at Fuddruckers, Applebees, Texas Road House, Lancaster's Traditional Lapps, something for everyone, kids loved it.

The only complaint (we stayed in April) more staffing is needed line is too long for check-in. I want to check-in quick. We had a long drive.
